Newtown Festival 2009

Earlier this week whilst looking at recipes (what else?) I found out that the Newtown Festival was on. I immediately got excited and tried to organise some friends from uni to come but alas that fell through.

The infamous Nottingham incident.

So Oli Sykes has written a song to get his anger out about the fact that he pissed on me, I was then subjected to a barrage of verbal abuse whilst leaving the tour bus and then had my head split open by a flying bottle…What the hell does he have to get out in anger??? I’m left with the god damn scar on my face! I’ve been slated for being a slag….but people…I said NO to sex.

We were hanging out and drinking, he couldn’t handle the rejection and was backed up by all his little child like friends in a DISGUSTING retaliation.

I would also like to state I am NOT a fan! as kerrang states that I am, I went to the gig with friends and we hung out had some fun and ended up drinking on the tour bus, I am not a little teenage groupy, I’m a grown woman who enjoys socialising and having a good time with friends; I can actually control myself and have a good time without jumping into bed with some band front man who thinks he’s all that.

The courts threw it out because there wasn’t enough evidence, though my friends all placed witness statements! which did make me feel angry for some time but hey; maybe now they will think twice about treating people like shit, I very much doubt it but I guess that would be one good thing that comes of the whole incident.

This is the girl who had a court case against BMTH’s front man Oli Sykes and lost. He got charged for urinating on her but won the case against the glassing that left this poor girl with a scar on her face. I know it happened some time ago but it still angers me when I think about it. Rock music is suppose to stick it ‘to the man’ and fight against the hegemonic behaviours society reinforces in everyday life, one of those meant to be sexism. One of the things the rock music industry like to brush under the rug and that everyone seems to leave unnoticed is sex discrimination. Oh yes, everyone, little old rock music is also helping ‘the fascist oppressors’. Name all the bands that you listen to. Now tell me, how many of those bands have all female members? Exactly. Now that is not to say there is no such thing, I do know of a single metal band that is all female. But that is just one out of however many bands that I listen to, and that is simply shocking. I have never heard a song from BMTH, so I have no say on their music, but it is absolutely appalling how many women took to the defence of Oli after the incident, calling the woman horrible names and slandering her. By doing this they are not only slandering the name of this woman but also of all women in general, and that is something I just cannot stand.
